Oftentimes we want to be more inclusive of people of all genders, but we may not know where to start. This mini-session introduces 3 things you can do TODAY to start on your journey. The facilitator will explain why these actions are impactful and how to enact them. Mini-sessions are more conversational in nature, and allow participants to ask questions and explore how they can apply this in their day-to-day life.
These mini-sessions are well-suited for “Lunch and Learn” Sessions, or to be paired with longer trainings as a follow-on. Here are three sample actions that can be discussed in this workshop:
1. Put Your Pronouns In Your Bio Or Email Signature
Sharing your pronouns in your bio and email signature is an important part of normalizing and destigmatizing pronoun-sharing for queer, trans, and nonbinary folks. You can also include your pronouns in your name on Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or Google Meet.
2. Introduce Yourself With Pronouns
When you meet someone new, try introducing yourself with pronouns. You can also include pronouns on name tags, or have a pronoun pin. It may feel heavy or complicated to share our pronouns, but it can be very easy. New skills take practice, and sharing our pronouns is no different! If you feel stuck on what to say, here are some examples to get you started:
“Hi there, I am Rachel and I use they/them pronouns.”
“Hey Alex, I’m Rachel. My pronouns are they/them.”
“Nice to meet you! My name is Rachel, and my personal pronouns are they/them.”
3. Check-In With A Friend On Their Pronouns
If you are beginning your learning journey on Pronouns and Gender Identity, you may realize that there are some people you see every day but you have never asked their pronouns. Perhaps you made assumptions about what pronouns would align with them. It is never too late to check-in with your friends to see what pronouns are true to them!
